incan roads
The Incas constructed an intricate road system to help them communicate. Since the Incas territory was long and narrow, they had to have a way to talk to one another. Apparently the roads were not enough to help them because their lack of communication lead them into a civil war. The roads stretched over 14,000 miles. The Incan people did not have the wheel, so the roads were used for walking, running, and sometimes llamas used them. The Incas mostly used the roads to deliver important messages. The people who delivered messages were called roadrunners. The roadrunners had to work extremely hard to deliver the message correctly. The Incan roads were so strong and durable that they are still being used today. The Incas' road system is evidence that they were an advanced civilization.
